Micah's Story

Micah / Male / 3 years old / 66 pounds / Mixed Breed / Good with Other Dogs / Good With Cats / Untested with Kids / Fostered in Georgetown / From Tennessee

Meet Micah! This unique beauty was found as a stray in Tennessee and has made the journey to Ontario in search of his forever home. While we don’t know much about Micah’s past, his striking looks and unique personality ensure that he is destined to become a beloved pet.

Micah’s foster describes him as sweet and gentle. He will lean his entire body on you for scratches. He likes to know where his foster is in the home and follows her around. He gets bursts of playful energy and will run a few laps in the backyard with his foster siblings. Micah loves toys and most games but is partial to “find it”. He is also learning the joys of fetch. He is medium energy and enjoys play time, as well as enrichment activities like snuffle mat, kong tire, and bully sticks. Micah loves sitting by the patio door and watching the backyard, barking at the occasional squirrel.

Since coming from Tennessee where he lived outdoors in a pen for several years, Micah has adjusted well to domestic life. He is now walking well on a leash, occasionally pulling when excited, for long walks (about 1 hour) every morning. After walking, Micah settles for the day. He has developed a strong appreciation for the couch and is usually found laying around on it throughout the day.

Micah does well in the house and has been left crated up to 8 hours and in a doggy proof space for up to 3 hours. He has not been destructive but should not be left with access to anything he should not chew on. He is learning that things on the counter are off limits to dogs and is very responsive to redirection. Micah sleeps through the night without issue. He is fully potty trained. Micah gets a little anxious getting into the car and may need to be lifted in. Once he is in he has not shown any signs of nerves or carsickness and will quietly lay down or look out the window. We believe this will improve as he continues to get used to the car.

Micah lives with 2 other dogs in his foster home and has other dog friends. We believe he could join a family with another well-adjusted dog with proper intros, but would also be fine as the only dog soaking up all the attention. Micah has lived with a cat and they peacefully shared the house. When first introduced, Micah definitely seemed interested but would leave the cat alone and not fixate on her. Micah has not met children since being in care but would likely be fine with older, dog-savvy children.

Micah is a special boy and is working so hard on becoming the best version of himself. He would benefit from an active family who likes to go on adventures outside the city. He needs a family that is committed to his ongoing training, which includes basic commands; particularly recall. He would do best in a home with a yard so he can spend time outside soaking up the sunshine.
