Faris (Foster-to-Adopt)

Faris’ Story

Faris is now available for Foster to Adopt!

***Please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form***

As a foster-to-adopt family, you will have two weeks to get to know your new furry house guest before committing to adoption. At the end of two weeks, if you choose not to move forward with adoption, we simply ask that you continue to provide a safe and loving home until their new forever family can be found.

During your foster-to-adopt trial, you’ll receive the support of a Fetch + Releash mentor to help you through the transition and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Foster-to-adopt families will be required to pay a $200 deposit on the adoption fee and sign our foster-to-adopt waiver in advance. If you choose not to adopt, your $200 will be refunded to you within 30 days of your dog being adopted into a new family provided you see your pup through to adoption. If you choose not to see your dog through to adoption, you will forfeit your deposit.

Foster-to-adopt families will be expected to provide their own supplies. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies.

Meet Faris! Faris came to us all the way from the streets of Egypt, where he was found in rough shape. Despite the hardship he faced he is now thriving and full of love, ready to find his forever home!

Faris’ fosters describe him as a big sweetheart, who enjoys cuddles, attention and treats. His typical day involves playing with his foster sister, soaking up the sun, going for walks, solving puzzles and trying to hold his foster’s hands while he gets pets.

With people he knows, Faris is full of love and excitement. He is eager to say hi and get attention. He will even have some goofy dances to welcome you home. Faris is a bit hesitant when meeting new people. If given space and time to investigate, he will warm up fairly quickly and is the silliest, bounciest pup, with the sweetest soul. Faris has met children over the age of 10 and has done well. The unpredictability of younger children might startle Faris so we think he would do best with older, dog-savvy children.

Faris is looking for a family who enjoys casual walks around the neighbourhood or adventures in the forest. A home with a yard where he can play would be ideal, and he would do best in a home outside a busy area. Faris will need a family who understands his needs for slow introductions and will respect and advocate for his boundaries.

Faris would thrive as a second dog in his home. He loves the companionship and guidance of a furry friend. Playing with his foster sister is a big part of his daily routine. He would also do well in a home as a solo dog with opportunities to socialize with other dogs. While he loves other dogs, he needs time to warm up when first meeting them. Proper introductions are crucial. Faris will need a cat-free home.

As an active dog, Faris requires walks, playtime and mental stimulation. He currently has two walks per day, time with puzzles and snuffle mats, and time to play with his foster sibling. He loves to engage in play, explore and practice his skills. Faris can be reactive on leash, but redirects well. Crossing the street when another dog is present helps him to avoid reactivity.

Faris already knows lots of basic commands and is highly food motivated and eager to learn. Since being in foster care, Faris completed a professional training program and loved it. His instructor described him as one of the quickest learners they have ever worked with! Faris thrives when engaged in training and it helps tire him out. He would love a forever family with an interest in continuing his training.

Within the home, Faris has great manners. He can be trusted alone, so long as there is no food left out for him to find. He usually sleeps in his own space, but will sometimes go to his bed and sleep beside his fosters. While he is good in his current home, he will need time to adjust and decompress in his new home.

Prior to coming into care, Faris tested positive for Ehrlichia and Anaplasma, which are tick-borne infections and are not contagious. A CBC was performed to see if there is an active infection; his CBC came back indicating that there is no active infection. It is recommended that Ehrlichia positive dogs get an annual blood test to monitor and that pre-op blood work include a CBC test and platelet count be performed before any surgeries or dental extractions.

Faris is currently on medications which he takes to assist with his anxiety. The medications are Sertraline (PMS) 25mg (1.5 months approx cost $68.93), Pregabalin (Teva) 50mg (3 months approx cost $242.95) and Trazodone (if using high end dose you can get 44 events for approx cost $63.17).

To ensure Faris is set up for life-long success, his new family will be required to sign up for and complete 3 training classes with an approved, positive-reinforcement based professional trainer (proof required). Details to be discussed upon application.
